Cloverdale is a welcoming white frame farmhouse located in Mt. Airy. The home is an excellent example of vernacular frame architecture in Howard County’s Victorian era. Cloverdale was known for years as the Selby Farm. The 1878 Hopkins Atlas shows an E. Selby owning 135 acres. Elias Selby was described as an honorable and astute businessman, frequently serving his county in the Legislature. He was a founder of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church which rests on land given by the Selby Family in 1876.
The farm left the Selby family in the 1940’s and changed hands several times over the years. It is now the private residence of the Kemps, a professional couple, who renovated the barn for their living quarters during the show house endeavor. The show house ran from September 21 to October 20. The co-Chairmen were Connie Siegel and Lorna Ozgun. About 5900 people attended.
